5 great reasons to attend our BTEC Sport open evening

Are you thinking about a future in sport and want to know more about your options after GCSEs? The open evening for our BTEC Sport course is the perfect opportunity to find out whether JB Sport + Education is right for you.

Date: Wednesday 14th January 2026

Time: 6.30 pm - 7.30 pm

Location: JB Sport + Education HQ, Wolds Yard, West Ashby (Horncastle)

Here are five great reasons why attending could be the best next step for your sporting journey.

1. Get a real feel for the BTEC course

Our open evening will give you a clear picture of what the Level 3 BTEC in Sport is really like.

You’ll learn:

  • How the course is structured over two years
  • How assessment works (spoiler: no written exams)
  • What a typical week looks like, including practical sessions and work experience

2. Meet the tutors and coaches who’ll support you

At JB, learning doesn’t stop in the classroom. Our open evening lets you meet the experienced tutors and coaches who deliver the course and support students day to day.

You’ll be able to:

  • Ask questions about the course content
  • Find out how students are supported academically and practically
  • Learn how we help students progress to university, apprenticeships, or employment

3. See how work experience is built into the course

One of the biggest strengths of the BTEC programme is the real work experience students gain alongside their studies, and the open evening is the ideal time to find out how it works.

You’ll learn:

  • How weekly placements in schools, academies, and community settings are organised
  • What BTEC students actually do on placement, from helping deliver PE lessons to supporting coaching sessions in schools and the community
  • How work experience links directly to coursework and future employment

4. Learn about university pathways from Lincoln College

One of the highlights of the open evening is a guest session led by a Lincoln College lecturer, who will deliver both a talk and a practical session focused on their Higher Education Sport courses at the Lincoln College University Centre.

This session will help you:

  • Understand what studying sport at university is really like
  • Learn about progression routes from BTEC to degree-level study
  • Explore courses such as Sport Science, PE, and other sport-related degrees

5. Make an informed decision about your future

Most importantly, the open evening gives you the confidence to choose the right path.

By attending, you’ll:

  • See if the environment feels right for you
  • Understand your options after GCSEs
  • Speak to staff about your goals and ambitions in sport
