An introduction to BTEC Sport

Love sport? Want to turn that passion into a career?

At JB Sport & Education, we know sport isn’t just another subject. It’s where you find motivation, teamwork, and confidence. That’s why our Level 3 BTEC in Sport Coaching and Development is designed especially for students like you who want to take their next step after GCSEs and make sport your future.

A great alternative to A Levels

Our two-year BTEC programme gives you a hands-on, exciting route into the world of sport. It’s worth up to three A Levels, has full UCAS points, and is recognised by universities across the UK so you can still go to uni if that’s your plan.

The course is perfect if you’re aiming for a career in:

  • Coaching

  • PE teaching

  • Sports science

  • Sports psychology

  • Or any sport-related job

And here’s the best bit - no written exams. You’ll be assessed through coursework, practical tasks, and ongoing assignments, so you can show your skills in real situations, not just on paper.

Learn in a real sports environment

Forget being stuck in a classroom all day. You’ll study and train at JB’s Training Centre in West Ashby (near Horncastle) — a proper sports environment with professional facilities, expert tutors, and real coaching opportunities.

Your week could include:

  • Lessons in sport development, psychology, nutrition, and coaching science

  • Practical sessions on pitches and in sports halls

  • Work experience in local schools and academies

  • Paid coaching hours at JB’s holiday clubs and sports academies

You’ll get both the knowledge and experience to stand out in the sports industry.

Real experience & real results

Each week, you’ll get the chance to help coach in local schools, supporting PE lessons, after-school clubs, and community sessions.

In Year 2, you can choose placements that match your goals like:

  • PE teaching

  • Sports journalism

  • Sports massage

  • Academy or community coaching

JB Sport & Education has a 100% success rate with students moving on to university courses, sports apprenticeships, or full-time coaching jobs. Many even stay on to join our own apprenticeship programme and start earning straight away.
