Help your students turn their passion for sport into a career

For many young people, sport is more than a subject. It’s where they find drive, teamwork, and confidence. The challenge for schools is finding a pathway after GCSEs that channels this passion into a purposeful, high-quality qualification for students.

That’s where JB Sport & Education’s Level 3 BTEC programme comes in.

A proven alternative to A Levels

This two-year programme for 16–18 year olds offers an engaging, hands-on route for students who are keen to build a career in sport. It’s equivalent to up to three A Levels, carries full UCAS points, and is recognised by universities across the UK.

Designed for learners who want to progress directly into employment as a coach or pursue a degree in sport, PE teaching, sports science, or related subjects, this qualification bridges the gap between education and the professional sporting world.

And because there are no written exams, learners are assessed through coursework, practical demonstrations, and ongoing assignments, allowing every student to showcase their real strengths.

Learning in the heart of the industry

Unlike traditional classroom-based courses, JB’s BTEC programme is delivered at the heart of the sports industry. Students are based at JB’s Training Centre near Horncastle, with access to professional facilities, expert tutors, and a genuine coaching environment.

A typical week includes:

  • Theory lessons in sport development, psychology, nutrition, and coaching science
  • Practical sessions on pitches and in sports facilities
  • Work experience placements in local schools and academies
  • Opportunities to earn paid coaching hours through JB’s holiday clubs and academies

This combination of academic learning and hands-on experience gives students both the knowledge and confidence to thrive in future employment.

Real work experience that builds skills

One of the standout features of the JB BTEC programme is the weekly work experience placement. Learners spend time supporting JB’s coaching staff in partner schools, assisting in PE lessons, after-school clubs, and community sports sessions.

In Year 2, placements can be tailored to career goals, with opportunities in:

  • Secondary school PE
  • Sports journalism
  • Sports massage
  • Academy and community coaching

The results speak for themselves. JB Sport + Education has a 100% success rate, with students progressing to university courses, sports apprenticeships, and full-time coaching roles.

Many graduates go on to study Sport Science, PE Teaching, Sports Development, or Sports Psychology at university. Others join JB’s own apprenticeship programme, moving straight into paid employment and further qualifications.

Why your school should get involved

For schools, this course offers an invaluable destination route for students who are passionate about sport but may prefer a more applied learning environment. Referring students to JB’s BTEC programme helps ensure they:

  • Remain engaged in education post-16
  • Gain credible qualifications equivalent to A Levels
  • Develop transferable skills in teamwork, leadership, and communication
  • Build a clear pathway toward university or employment

Partnering with JB also strengthens community links. With JB students often returning to support PE delivery in local schools as part of their placement.

With a 100% success rate, JB's BTEC programme is perfect for students wanting to turn their passion for sport into a career
